Modern buildings need to be energy-efficient. They also need to satisfy a demand for greater comfort, convenience, safety, security and sustainability. However, making a building more comfortable and convenient can also increase its energy consumption, so it is important to decide what features are really necessary and what are superfluous luxuries.
