With the introduction of the European product standards and the CE marking linked with it, the desire of the European Community for free trade in construction elements would become a reality. The basis for this was already created in December 1988 within Europe with the Construction Product Directive (CPD), and implemented in Germany in April 1998 with the Construction Products Act
The Construction Products Act regulates that with the termination of the coexistence period products may no longer be placed on the market without the corresponding marking. The CE marking is thus a type of “license” for the product, but, however, not a quality mark.
